A personal note from James C. Tanner:

From relationships, to areas of our own personal growth, many people…and I DO mean many people from all walks of life, struggle with dysfunctions and deep seated personal challenges.  Some have buried deep inside, a life crisis so severe that for the first time in their life they are being forced to pry open a painful lid sealed so tight that much of the experience had been forgotten.  Life isn’t always fair, and it does change.  If we are going to embrace life head on, then we must learn to put away the crutch of “denial” and confront head on our past putting those events into proper context.  In today’s world, change has become our new healthy constant.

The 20 Traits of Relationally Unsafe People

Book Description: We’ve all been there a time or two, burned by bad relationships be it with a friend, co-worker, employer, family member or romantic partner. All of a sudden we wake up one day scratching our head wondering “how on earth did we get ourselves into another mess?”

Too many of us good people have poured ourselves, with the best of intentions, into building bad relationships where we’ve ended up being abandonned, taken advantage of, or left with little or nothing to show for the devotion, time, and energy committed to a good thing gone bad. Somewhere in the midst of it all we lose sight of who we are, and for a period of time, doubt our ability to discern who is going to be a good choice for us, and who won’t be. It becomes a question of, “What do I have to change to avoid falling into this trap again?”

In our childhood years we are left to the perils of the school yard to learn from the meek and the bullies how to make friends.  No one teaches us as children, or as youth how to recognize the 20 traits of relationally unsafe people.

Most of us couldn’t identify two of the several personality disorders. If asked, most of us couldn’t describe what a narcissit, psychopath, sociopath or what a machiavellian is, and yet, they can be a nightmare in a relationship.

Most of us don’t know what the cycle of abuse looks like, or the power/control wheel, and most of us incorrectly think an irresponsible partner is someone who is a poor provider or bad with finances.

The 20 Traits of Relationally UNSAFE People helps to peel back the blinders revealling many of the reasons why we’ve made bad choices in the past and what we need to look for in a person to avoid making those mistakes again.

Excelling In The Face Of Personal Chaos

Book Description: Personal Chaos — In our lives, order and chaos live in a state of ongoing tug-of-war. The emotional and psychological highs and lows of both order and chaos are familiar to us all. Learning to navigate our chaos rather than shutting it down, or denying it’s existence, can provide rich rewards.

In this book, James C. Tanner touches on topics such as: chaos and the lies we choose to believe; the foundation stone of personal forgiveness; the heavy weight of personal guilt; remorse; repentance; how your life is measured; understanding your true life calling; the power of origins; the importance of inner healing; quitting the blame and shame game; the pursuit of personal excellence; and finally two thieves called Yesterday and Tomorrow.

The evidences of chaos can vary, but often reveal themselves in the form of broken relationships, depression, illness, death, divorce, or job loss, etc. In extreme cases, as a means of coping, some turn to alcohol, sex, prescription drugs, or illegal drugs. The bright side is that the periodic loss of order in our lives provides tremendous potential for personal growth—an opportunity to excel in the face of personal chaos.

The 7 Savage Sins of Small Business And Why Entrepreneurs Are Addicted To Them

Talent is never enough. While each and every one of us is born with talents, we fool only ourselves if we buy into the lie which states that our talents are all we need to succeed in life.

Our natural gifting, our talents, must marry with preparation before success can be earned, and preparation is a series of processes. If we are going to prepare for tomorrow, then we must embrace one single truth – tomorrow starts with us making the right choices and right use of today.

The 7 Savage Sins of Small Business…and Why Entrepreneurs Are Addicted to Them” touches on seven of the most common areas where young and old, new or experienced entrepreneurs, as well as small and medium size business managers get it all wrong.

Wisdom dictates that if we take time to prepare today, then no time will be wasted repairing tomorrow.

A good leader knows that no matter how good the outcome, if something is being done the same way over and over again, then something is terribly wrong. Growth requires change, and every single performance can be improved upon. Growing forward in life is all about positive change. Positive change isn’t always easy change, as change pushes us out of our comfort zones.

Growing forward in life as a small business owner or entrepreneur is all about embracing change that matures us into something better, but we cannot grow if we do not choose to see and address what is holding us back.

We live in a fast changing economy where customer loyalty has quickly become a thing of the past. For those of us in business, “making a living” is requiring a whole new focus – a deeper mandate to succeed in the face of fiscal fury. Making it in today’s business market requires a new mind-set, one that beckons business owners back to a world of common sense practicalities.

With inexperienced leaders now at the helm of many small businesses, the role of wearing so many different hats in the workplace leaves little time for innovation and product expansion.

Today, change is the new constant, and if our businesses are not changing…if they are not growing…then our businesses are not only dying a slow death, but reality suggests they are already dead and simply waiting for us to announce the date and time of the funeral.

Harnessing Your Why – How To Make Your Business Create Money” delves into the necessity of re-identifying your “WHY” for being in business.

The same way we harness a horse to direct it, in business we must learn to harness the powerful strength of our “WHY” to place ourselves in a better position to direct our business into the path of a more profitable future.
